Three template sample letters to send to job applicants you've decide not to hire.
A lot of time goes into hiring someone. So much so in fact, that it can seem like a blow to a new manager or entrepreneur when having to tell someone they haven't been hired. A lot was invested into the process, and negatives are always hard to share. Not making a job offer to an applicant can be even more stressful if you actually liked them, but didn't feel they were as perfect a fit as another candidate. To dampen the blow somewhat, try using one of these free sample letters to mail out to the people you've chosen not to hire. You may use or adapt these letters as you see fit for your entrepreneurial enterprise, but please do not copy and paste them in their entirety onto your website. Free Sample Letter #1: No Openings Available at This TimeDear [insert name], Thank you for your interest in [insert company name] and for taking the time to send us your resume [or attend an interview ] for the position of [insert position name]. Unfortunately, we currently have no openings in the field you are most suited to work. However, we would be pleased to keep your resume on file for the next [insert timeline] and will review it should an opening arise during that time frame. We realize your application with [insert company name] is valuable to you, and we are honored that you chose to apply to our company. Best wishes in your work search. Sincerely, [insert name, company name and title] Free Sample Letter #2: Not Hired After Attending an InterviewDear [insert name], Thank you for taking the time to interview for the [insert position name], [insert competition number if there was one] at [insert your company name]. It was a pleasure to meet with you and [insert something specific to the candidate]. Unfortunately, we have selected another candidate whose background, skills and work experience better mirror the needs of [insert company name] at this time. However, we would be pleased to keep your resume on file for the next [insert timeline] and will review it should another, similar opening arise during that time frame. We are honored that you chose to apply to [insert company name] and wish you only the best in your future job search efforts. Sincerely, [insert name, company name and title] Free Sample Letter #3: Receipt of Job Application, May or May Not Hire at a Later DateDear [insert name], Thank you for responding to [insert company name]'s advertisement in [insert publication] regarding the [insert position name], [insert competition number if there was one]. Since the deadline for applicantions doesn't close until [insert date], we will review your resume at that time. Please note however that your application has been received, and if you are chosen for an interview, you will be contacted by [insert method of contact] no later than [insert date]. We realize your application with [insert company name] is valuable to you, and we are honored that you chose to apply to our company. Best wishes in your work search.
